Hitesh, et.al:
The BAC meeting tomorrow night will likely have some drivers who wish to
speak on the subject during the 'public input' part of the meeting. In
fact, item 10e. on the agenda is a reguest from a driver (upset about
Guerrero/San Jose) for an improved notification system so that drivers can
participate in the decision-making process. This sounds like the perfect
forum you are referencing below.

I would encourage everyone to come to Thursday night's meeting
(http://www.sfgov.org/site/bac_page.asp?id=31356) and say your piece for the
benefit of the traveling public.

Fellow car free typos ....

If you haven't checked out the new SJ/Guerrero bike lanes...
Go! They are _the_ nicest bike lanes ever. And, hence, we've stirred some
irateness amongst non car free typos...

So, I was thinking that some brainstorming was in order.
I don't know exactly how this idea would come to fruition...
perhaps we could come up with a solution that isn't hokey, but accomplishes
something other than further polarization.

At the risk of losing some activist credits, I'm envisioning a bicycle
community outreach to the irate motorists... And not necessarily to get them
to ride their bicycles, but to just try to explain the rationale for what we
are doing... to try to help them to see things, if just briefly, from our
shoes. And to help them realize that cyclists are humans too... and, btw,
don't want to get run over.

I'm envisioning us going out on a limb to bridge the barrier, to overcome
the 'hatred', if we want to call it that.

Again, I don't know what form this would take.. but there it is.

Post away....
Hitesh :)

 1) NEWLY STRIPED BIKE LANES NEED YOUR HELP!

The good news is that the brand new bike lanes on San Jose/Guerrero Aves.
between Cesar Chavez and Randall are complete and lots of bicyclists are
calling in to say how much they love them. The bad news is that some irate
motorists are also calling their city representatives to complain - pretty
hotly - about the new bike lanes.

We need your help in two ways:
* First, please take a spin to check out the new lanes on your bike. We
think you'll be impressed, and more bicyclists adding to our numbers on the
contested stretch helps boost our cause.
* Second, please email Supervisors Dufty <mailto:bevan.dufty at sfgov.org> and
Ammiano <mailto:tom.ammiano at sfgov.org> to say thank you, and please cc the
Department of Parking & Traffic at livable.streets at sfgov.org

And hold the date: Saturday April 30 -- Big Happy Lane-Loving Ribbon-Cutting
Celebration for the new San Jose / Guerrero lanes! (details to follow) . . .
