we don't need BRT on bridge between SF and Oakland -- it's called BART.
however it doesn't stop at TI. If we could just drill down a station from
TI into the Transbay tube lying on the mucky floor of the bay, now that
might be interesting.

I most certainly could be wrong, but I do not see Treasure Island as
marketed as a carfree dev (or even car-lite), although the buzzword of
sustainability will no doubt be deployed. As I see it, this is
basically a development proposal that has life because the west-side
and some east side SF neighborhoods oppose densification along GG Park
and along core Muni lines (i.e the diluted SF Housing Element and the
issue of reducing parking space). I also understand Lennar homes has an
interesting history with Willie Brown, although I am sure others on this
list could shed more light on that.
Bike access on the Bay Bridge (and to TI) is a great idea and should
have been done yesterday. But by taking away a car lane on the top deck
- and not spending millions of dollars hanging the path off the side of
the bridge. While we are at it, take two more lanes off the top deck for
bus rapid transit between SF (Transbay)-TI-Oakland. And then maybe an
HOV-only lane. And make the bottom deck two way for regular car/ truck
traffic. I know, I know, fat chance. We cannot think out of the box. We
must accomodate the motorist. I will get back in the box.
Lets drill ANWR so we can get the cash to rebuild levees in New Orleans
so we can rebuild sprawl in the backswamp. Back in the box now.
