Press conference with Sup. Mirkarimi, Walk SF, and SAN
Today at 4pm (Haight at Cole Streets)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Saturday evening around 6 PM, Edward Badelalla, a 64-year old
pedestrian was hit and fatally injured by a 43 MUNI bus at the corner of
Haight Street and Cole Street. He died around 10 PM that evening due to
the severity of his injuries. This is the second pedestrian killed by a
MUNI bus in two weeks.
At 4pm today, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, and representatives from Walk
SF and Senior Action Network will be holding a press conference at the
site of the collision (Haight and Cole Streets) to speak about
pedestrian issues in the Haight and citywide.
Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi was very concerned about the most recent
pedestrian death, “The City absolutely needs to do a better job making
our neighborhoods safer for those who walk. For too long, we have built
our streets for the goal of moving as many cars as quickly as possible,
to the exclusion of other forms of transportation such as transit,
walking, and biking. As a Transit-First city, we need to make our
streets safer and more comfortable for the hundreds of thousands of
people who ride MUNI, walk, or bike every day.”
Emily Drennen, Executive Director of Walk San Francisco, followed by
saying, “The sheer number of pedestrians who get injured or die on our
city’s streets each year is staggering. The thing that makes us the
angriest is that, for the most part, these deaths and injuries could
have been prevented. With better enforcement of the traffic laws, more
pedestrian countdown signals and crosswalks, and people taking just a
little bit more care driving, many of the people we have lost could have
still been with us.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

the intersection where Edward Badelalla was fatally injured by a MUNI
bus on Saturday night. Please candles (if you have some) and a somber
