Bert,

Thanks for the forward. Penalosa is awesome,  and TLC still thinks he 
would be a great planning director for SF; or perhaps the visionary MTA 
executive director we so badly need!

The US is in some ways a developed country, and other ways a rather 
poorly developed one. Penalosa's emphasis on the treating transit 
riders, pedestrians and bicyclists with dignity, rather than constantly 
reinforcing their second-class status, is an important insight.
