[Carfreeliving] FW: UN World Environment Day Speaking Request

I've always wanted to use the word "dignity" more in our work. It
plays into street design so importantly. Even a standard street with
bike lanes often gives you the sense that you are a second class user
of the roadway. For example, whenever a bike path of travel crosses a
car path of travel, the bike indications on the roadway disappear,
essentially saying, you can get your own space if it's available, but
if a car driver wants your space, it's to the back of the bus for
you! (The stencils are important for this reason, but we have a long
way to go before the San Francisco resident gets the sense from
street design that bicycling is the way you're expected to travel,
while motoring is permitted, instead of the other way around.)
