BICYCLE SALES BOOM IN US, OUTPACE AUTOS

The US Chamber of Commerce says more bicycles have been sold than  
cars over the past 12 months, in part because of rising gasoline  
prices, but thanks also to rising awareness of health and  
environmental issues and perhaps a touch of Lance Armstrong's charm.  
In a country where most of the population still relies heavily on  
cars, some 87 million people have climbed on a bike in the past 12  
months, according to Tim Blumenthal, executive director of Bikes  
Belong, indicating an encouraging shift in the American public's  
enjoyment of bicycling . . .
