Hi, Folks.
I am a reporter with Gannett Co, Inc. (www.Gannett.com), and I'm doing
research for a
new book about transportation alternatives to the private automobile.
I am looking for real-life success stories from people who do not own/lease
a car in the
United States or Canada. If you know anyone who fits this description,
please forward
my questions to them as well. Again, I am particularly interested in hearing
from people
who do not have a car or truck. Your responses can be long or short, but I
would like
them to hit on the following topics:
-do you own/lease a car or other vehicle?
-how long have you been car-free?
-why do you live car-free?
-what do you like about not owning a car?
-why/how did you decide to go car-free?
-how much money are you saving by not owning a car? (please be as specific
as
possible)
-how has this helped your personal finances? What have you been able to
spend money
on since you don't spend it on a car?
-if you commute on foot or by bike, is it convenient or a hassle?
-if you live within a few miles of work, did you have the job first and then
move close-by?
or vice-versa?
-are you helping the environment?
-how much do you use public transit? Is it convenient?
-how do you accomplish simple errands like grocery shopping?
-do you make your errands come to you? (shop online, grocery delivery, etc)
-how do people react when you tell them you are car-free?
-do you have more free time or less because you are car-free?
-do you recommend the car-free lifestyle to others and why?
-what are the challenges of not having a car?
-what's the best part and worst part of not having a car?
-how has not having a car affected your social life?
-If you walk or bicycle to work, how do you handle foul weather? (keep extra
clothes at
work? shower at work? etc..)
-how far do you live from work and how do you get there?
-how much time does it take you to get to work?
-how does that commute time compare to your average co-workers who drive?
-how do you accomplish non-work transportation (i.e. transportation other
than
commuting)?
-how else do you get around town?
-can anyone try the car-free lifestlye?
-PLEASE INDICATE IF I HAVE YOUR PERMISSION TO QUOTE YOU IN THE BOOK
-ALSO, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR NAME, CITY, CAREER DESCRIPTION, AND AGE if
possible.
